British girl group Little Mix released their sophomore album Salute on February 4th in the United States, and the album managed to debut at number 6 on the Billboard 200 chart.

There’s no denying that these are four talented girls, but even more than that, their music is fantastic. The deluxe edition contains sixteen amazing tracks, and it’s hard to pick a favorite!

The title track “Salute” starts off the album, and is a fantastic introduction to the tone of the album. The song is an anthem of sorts where Little Mix proudly proclaim that they are “representing all the women.” It’s a strong song with a great girl power message.

“Move” was the first single off of the album, and it is a catchy song about wanting a boy to dance. “Little Me,” the second single off of the album is all about accepting who you are. The girls of Little Mix sing to their younger selves about wishing they had “known back then what I know now.” It’s a heart-warming very relatable song.

The rest of the album continues with a wide range of both upbeat and slow songs. There is guaranteed to be a song here that fits any mood. Two personal favorites of mine are “A Different Beat” and “Boy.” “A Different Beat” celebrates individuality, while “Boy” encourages the listener to forget about the boy who keeps breaking their heart because “ain’t nobody got time for that.”

My favorite thing about the album is the image Little Mix manages to give off about being who you are and loving yourself. Self-acceptance is portrayed in a number of the songs. You’re not going to hear Little Mix badmouthing others or giving off the impression that everyone needs to fit some perfect ideal. Every song gives off the feeling that you are important and you should love yourself.

This message is complemented by the amazing vocal talent of the girls and the well-written songs that make up the album. There’s not a song on this album that you won’t want to sing along to. I haven’t been able to go a day since the album was released without at least one song from it getting stuck in my head, and that is perfectly fine with me.

It’s clear to me that Little Mix has made an absolutely incredible album with Salute.
