Now, the biggest surprise and pleasure of the list comes from Demián Bichir, a Mexican actor who gave a breathtaking turn in this Summer’s A Better Life. We haven’t seen him on any other lists this year, and his performance is truly award worthy. Let’s hope that the academy takes some notice of this $1.8 million grossing independent feature.

The biggest snub surely was the lack of a nomination for Gary Oldman for his performance in Tinker Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The critics have been raving about his quiet performance, but it seems that he may have been a little too quiet since the Screen Actors Guild appears to have glanced over the film entirely. Could this mean bad things for TTSS on Oscar night?

Other surprises include the presence of Armie Hammer (the Winklevoss twins from The Social Network who just gave a SAG worthy performance in J.Edgar) who is facing a growing career horizon with his first nomination. Seeing Bridesmaids on the list so many times, including a supporting actress nod for recent Emmy snagger Melissa McCarthy, truly warms our hearts, mostly because the Academy have been so stringently anti-comedy in the past couple of years.

One more major snub is the absence of Shailene Woodley who gave a breaking performance in The Descendants. She’s almost guaranteed an Oscar nod, but given her importance in the film and her heartbreaking scenes with George Clooney, we would have thought that a nomination was inevitable. She should have at least gotten Jessica Chastain’s spot.

So what do you think? Are there any more surprises and snubs that you can find on this list? Was there any drama on the television front? Let us know below!
