It appears the sequel to the Johnny Depp-starred Alice in Wonderland may add another talented actor: Sacha Baron Cohen.

Variety reports that Sacha Baron Cohen is in talks to join Alice in Wonderland 2.

Back in July we told you that star Johnny Depp was in talks with Disney to get the Alice in Wonderland sequel into production. This was, of course, during the time that The Lone Ranger was in theaters, the latest Depp film to underperform at the box office. The film brought Disney over $190 million in losses, so it was important that they showed they still had faith in each other.

Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass (it was previously subtitled Into the Looking Glass) will see the return of Depp and co-star Mia Wasikowska, so the addition of Baron Cohen would definitely make for a talented cast.

The film will be directed by James Bobin, most known for directing The Muppets and its upcoming sequel, Muppets Most Wanted. How much of Tim Burton’s signature style will he emulate? Time will tell. While Burton’s visual style was one of the better things about Alice in Wonderland (we don’t want to talk about the story), we do hope Bobbins puts his own stamp on it.

Apart from a cameo in Anchorman 2, we haven’t seen Baron Cohen in a substantial role since last Christmas when he had a fairly big supporting part in Les Misérables. Luckily, the talented actor is developing several projects currently, so we’ll see plenty more of him.

If only he hadn’t been forced to exit the Freddie Mercury biopic. Alas.

Do you think Sacha Baron Cohen should join ‘Alice in Wonderland 2’?
