Sabrina the Teenage Witch is heading back to our screen. We’ve already found our lead in Kiernan Shipka, but now we’re getting a first look at Salem.

Executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa took to his Twitter account to share a picture of the sharp-tongued cat. The image also gives us an idea of the aesthetic that the show will be going for.

The series, which will be based off the graphic novel The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, will be much darker in tone. That is evidenced here in the shadows cast from the candlelight and deep red trimmings. It certainly makes Salem look quite an imposing presence.

In both the comics and the original television series, Salem was a witch who was sentenced by the Witch’s Council to spend 100 years as a cat, with no magical abilities. We can’t imagine that they would change that up for the Netflix show, but they might put their own twist on his sentence.

Nick Bakay, who voice Salem over the course of the ’90s series, was beloved by fans of the show. As of now there is no indication whether or not he will return for the Netflix iteration, though fans of Sabrina are hoping that Bakay will reprise the role.

For now, the show is slowly coming together. We have no doubt that Aguirre-Sacasa will continue to share glimpses into production as it continues to pick up steam.

What do you think about our first look at Salem and Netflix’s ‘Sabrina’?
