The upcoming big screen adaptation of The Hate U Give has added another familiar face to its cast!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Girl Meets World star Sabrina Carpenter has officially joined the cast of the upcoming film.

Carpenter is set join The Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg in the upcoming film, based off of Angela Thomas’ New York Times Best-Selling debut novel.

Carpenter, who’s been focusing on her music career since wrapping on Girl Meets World, is set to play a character named Hailey in the forthcoming film. Hailey is described as one of Starr’s (Stenberg) friends from the prep school she attends.

It’s been a pretty big week for casting news with regards to The Hate U Give. Carpenter aside, we learned on Wednesday (August 23) that Insecure star Issa Rae had also joined the cast.

We already know that Rae, who’s set to play an activist named April in the film, will be forming a pretty important relationship with Starr. That being said, we’ll be interested to see how Carpenter’s character plays into the fabric of the story.

Adapted for the big screen by scriptwriter Audrey Wells, The Hate U Give tells the story of a 16-year-old girl named Starr who grew up in an impoverished neighborhood, but now attends a suburban prep school. Starr’s life is changed forever after she bears witness to the shooting of her unarmed friend by a police officer.

Also joining Carpenter, Rae, and Stenberg in the upcoming adaptation are actors Russell Hornsby, Regina Hall, Lamar Johnson, Algee Smith, and Common.

The film, which currently has no set release date, will be directed by Men of Honor and The Longest Ride helmer George Tillman Jr.
