The music stars will be joining Team Adam and Team Christina as mentors during The Voice‘s battle rounds.

Season 5’s first two celebrity guest mentors have been announced, and they’ll be helping Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera mentor their contestants on to success.

E! reports Adam Levine has chosen One Republic’s Ryan Tedder to help mentor Team Adam during the battle rounds. Tedder, aside from being a talented front man, is also a hugely successful writer and producer, who has worked with Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Adele, Demi Lovato, and Carrie Underwood, among others. Levine himself has has said of their past collaborations that working with Tedder “is like looking into a creative mirror.”

Since they both come from the pop-rock world, Levine’s and Tedder’s advice will be particularly helpful to performers of that style. Hopefully Team Adam has a lot of singer-songwriters. With Tedder’s help, Team Adam might see its first winner since season 1’s Javier Colon.

Christina Aguilera has gone in a bit of a different direction, choosing an artist quite different from her own style. Ed Sheeran is a successful British singer-songwriter (and possible Rupert Grint clone) whose debut album + has gone gold in the U.S. and platinum in the U.K. Sheeran took a break from opening for Taylor Swift’s Red Tour to offer his insight to Team Christina.

While their musical styles are different, both Aguilera and Sheeran have broad interests in different genres of music, and will likely offer a well-rounded critique for the artists. Perhaps this will give Aguilera her first win as coach, as no one has been able to beat Blake Shelton over the last three seasons.

Christina tweeted about working with Sheeran, saying:

She included a video interview with Extra, in which she and Sheeran discuss working together on the show, and the possibility of a future collaboration.

Sheeran responded as well:

The battle rounds follow the blind audition rounds on The Voice. In the battle rounds, coaches pair two contestants from the same team to duke it out in a duet, and their coach must then pick only one contestant to advance. The pairs meet and rehearse with their coaches and guest mentors before the battle, which is where Tedder and Sheeran will provide their input.

Previous guest mentors have included Reba McEntire, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott, Sheryl Crow, Mary J. Blige, Alanis Morrissette, Miranda Lambert, and Robin Thicke.

The Voice season 5 premieres on Monday, Sept 23, and will feature the return of original coaches Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, joining pals Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
