Multiple sources have confirmed that Ryan Seacrest was at NBC today talking as a possible replacement to Matt Lauer on Today. What does this mean with his future on Idol?

Ryan Seacrest has long been a fan of the Comcast-NBCUniversal merger that took place this year, going as far as publicly stating his excitement and eagerness to develop new programming and opportunities for himself. He told The Hollywood Reporter:

“I’m kind of going into this merger saying: ‘Hey, what do you got? What can we do? Yes. Let’s go,’ ”

Lauer has also talked about the possibility of leaving The Today Show when his contract is up in late 2012.
