Netflix has acquired two more big A-listers, this time snagging a big-budget movie from Michael Bay and Ryan Reynolds, Six Underground.

Ryan Reynolds is riding high right now thanks to the box office success of Deadpool 2, but it isn’t the only reason that the actor should be celebrating. In another high-profile acquisition, the streaming giant Netflix has managed to acquire the new film starring Reynolds that will be directed by Michael Bay, Six Underground.

In addition to distributing and producing the film, Netflix will also be co-financing the movie, which, for a Michael Bay picture, isn’t going to be cheap. As Variety reports, Bay did initially consider partnering with Paramount, who he’s worked with for some time now, but ended up choosing Netflix when the streaming service agreed to commit to Bay’s budget of $125 million. Six Underground will be Netflix’s most expensive film endeavor yet.

Acquiring Six Underground also marks Netflix’s first acquisition of a major Hollywood director. The streaming service has been quite successful acquiring big-name actors like Will Smith, Brad Pitt, and now Ryan Reynolds, but Michael Bay is one of the first A-list directors to join in on Netflix original programming.

The plot for Six Underground is still being kept under lock and key, but the script is to be written by Deadpool and Deadpool 2 scriptwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, so it is bound to be a fun and exciting adventure.

There isn’t a specific release date for the movie just yet, but Variety reports that Netflix is eyeing a 2019 worldwide release for the new film. We can’t wait to see the adventure that Ryan Reynolds and Michael Bay are planning for us in Six Underground.
