Breaking from tradition, Ryan Murphy dropped several kernels of information regarding American Horror Story 8 at an Emmy pre-voting “For Your Consideration” event.

American Horror Story fans know that prior to each season, we are usually kept entirely in the dark when it comes to knowing the horror that awaits us in the upcoming season. Showrunner Ryan Murphy is famously tight-lipped about each season, often not revealing much more than a title or releasing strings of spooky (and often misleading) trailers.

And while we fully expected a similar tight-lipped operation for American Horror Story 8, Murphy dropped some very interesting hints about the new season. As Variety reports, season 8 will take place 18 months from right now, and will have a tone similar to Asylum and Coven.

As for the cast, we know that AHS staples Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will be returning, as will Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, Adina Porter, Kathy Bates, and Leslie Grossman. But we’ll also get a new cast member in the iconic Joan Collins, who will be playing Evan Peter’s grandmother.

Murphy also let the fans know that Evan Peters will be playing a more comedic role in American Horror Story 8 as a hairstylist. Peters has certainly done comedic roles before like Quicksilver in the X-Men films (and who can forget his iconic turn as Seth Wosmer on Phil of the Future). After playing such a heavy (and seriously messed up) role last season on Cult, we’re excited to see Peters take on a role that is a bit more light-hearted, or at least as light-hearted as we get on AHS.

So what is American Horror Story 8 about? Well, Murphy wasn’t feeling that generous. Though lots of rumors have been swirling about a post-apocalyptic storyline, we haven’t gotten an official confirmation of that just yet. So for now, we’ll just have to enjoy the tidbits we have and get ready for AHS 8 to premiere this fall.
