This afternoon, Ryan Murphy announced another addition to American Horror Story: Freak Show on his Twitter account.

Ryan Murphy and company tend to keep it in the family when it comes to casting. American Horror Story: Freak Show is no exception as most of the season 4 installment consists of returning cast members from the previous Coven.

Branching out a bit, Murphy announced today that Finn Wittrock will make his American Horror Story debut. Wittrock’s previous tie comes from his role in the HBO movie adaptation of The Normal Heart, directed by Murphy.

Wittrock played the role of Albert in The Normal Heart, a character who contracts the HIV virus and whose death rocks the lives of the men fighting to bring attention to disease. He also made his Broadway debut opposite the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in Death of a Salesman.

In other American Horror Story casting buzz, Ryan Murphy’s response on Twitter to Neil Patrick Harris’ request to have a role on the show created a stir. Harris wraps up his role as Hedwig in the Broadway run of Hedwig and the Angry Inch on August 17. Perhaps he can make a trip down to New Orleans for a much needed break, with a side of filming!

Promotional material is still rather sparse for the new season, except for a well made fan trailer. Freak Show is set to host a panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, but word is that no footage will be shown and the panel will focus on Coven. Check back to see all the details from the panel later this week!
