The handsome heartthrob Ryan Gosling will be moving to an off-screen role for his upcoming directorial debut!

Gosling will make his directorial debut with the upcoming film, How to Catch a Monster. Christina Hendricks (Mad Men)  is currently set to star in the lead role of this indie. Variety reports that the film “is set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city and centered on a single mother of two being swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.”

Gosling starred in Crazy, Stupid, LoveThe Ides of March, and Drive last year. He will next be seen in Gangster Squad which was originally due out in September, but will now be released in early 2013 due to the Aurora shootings. Gosling has also gained popularity though many fan-created “Hey Girl” memes and Tumblr accounts.

Henricks, best known for her role in Mad Men, starred alongside Gosling in Drive, and will be seen in Ginger & Rosa later this year.

While it is unfortunate we won’t see Gosling’s handsome face in How to Catch a Monster, we are really anxious to see how the film will turn out under his direction! No other information regarding a release date or other casting has been announced, but we’ll keep you updated as it surfaces.

What do you think of How to Catch a Monster? Do you think Gosling will make a good director?
