A rumor surfaced yesterday that claimed Ryan Gosling would have a part in Star Wars Episode VII, but it has quickly been denied.

Ryan Gosling reps made contact with the Huffington Post today. “This is not true,” said the email.

In the initial report, it was said that Ryan Gosling (Drive) was in consideration for the role of Luke Skywalker’s son in the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars Episode VII, which is scheduled to be released in 2015. At 32, Gosling would have been about the right age to play son of now 61 Mark Hamill.

The report also stated that Zac Efron (High School Musical, 17 Again) would also have a part. His part was not specified, but it could be expected that it’d be either another son of Luke Skywalker’s, or a son of Han and Leia Solo, which would be more likely. With Gosling out of the way, it’s also possible that Efron could take over the role of Luke Skywalker’s son.

Efron’s involvement has neither been confirmed nor denied, but Efron has said for a long time that he’d like a role in Star Wars.

Star Wars did not make an appearance at last week’s San Diego Comic-Con, but they are expected to play a part at Disney’s D23 Expo. Disney would probably like to make a big splash with their fairly recently acquired franchise, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see some casting announcements, even it’s just the official announcement of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher’s return to the series.

Are you glad Ryan Gosling won’t be in ‘Star Wars Episode VII’?
