For the first time in quite some time, the incredibly talented Ryan Gosling is reportedly eyeing roles in Doctor Strange, Houdini, and Suicide Squad, which were announced last night.

Gosling has been avoiding franchise films over his entire career, and he’s achieved some great respect from his fellow actors for taking obscure roles and turning them into very interesting and unique films.

While they aren’t being seen as much as Marvel’s latest tentpoles, they certainly have better written scripts and storylines. Gosling is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood, and we’ve been waiting for him to jump back into some mainstream roles.

Of course Doctor Strange has been the king of the rumors as of late, with half a dozen incredible actors being eyed for the role, but Gosling would certainly put a new spin on the magical scientist. He’s got the looks and certainly has the ability to pull off any character he so chooses.

Heat Vision are reporting that Gosling has shown interest in making a franchise film by taking over the lead roles in one of these three major movies. Apparently Marvel are still upset that Joaquin Phoenix left negotiations concerning Doctor Strange, so they may be looking for Ryan to step up if he has decided to jump into a franchise superhero role.

Jared Leto is back in the running for the Doctor Strange role as well, and as he is coming off of an Oscar win, he may edge out the other competition if his screen tests go well. Between Leto and Gosling, we’d have to go with Gosling based on how unique the role would end up being.

Ryan is also eyeing offers to star in The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero, which will be directed by Dean Parisot, who directed the fan favorite Galaxy Quest. This project is based on a book by the same name and paints the magician in an Indiana Jones type of light.

Houdini will apparently spend less time on stage performing and more time investigating the world of the occult that happened later in his life once his mother passed away.

Johnny Depp was originally set to star in the film, but his shooting schedule with the new Pirates film has caused him to drop out. But that’s not all the superhero films Gosling has been taking a look at. He’s also reportedly interesting in joining Warner Bros.’ DC comic adaptation of the Suicide Squad.

This is a bit more obscure, but Gosling may prefer that, where he would be playing the lead role of the Suicide Squad, which is full of villains mostly. There have been no official statements, but information that has been leaking as of late seems to be the most solid we’ve seen in years.

It may finally be time for Gosling to make his move into the superhero genre, and we hope he decides to choose where he believes he’ll fit best. Doctor Strange would gain a huge bump if he were to attach himself to the role, but we wouldn’t mind seeing him in either of the other two potential films either.

Let us know which role you think Ryan Gosling should take on as he makes his way into the superhero film genre, after spending the last few years working on obscure, yet often brilliant films.
