Director Ryan Coogler is continuing his run with Marvel’s Black Panther.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Ryan Coogler has officially signed on to write and direct the highly anticipated sequel, Black Panther 2.

The move likely isn’t too much of a shock for fans and movie buffs alike. The first installment of the Black Panther franchise was a box office success, raking in a total of over $1.3 billion worldwide.

Even so, it’s great to hear that Coogler and Marvel have officially inked a deal and cemented the director’s return.

Furthermore, it sounds as though Coogler will be returning to the world of Wakanda incredibly soon.

The unnamed source who tipped THR off also revealed that the plan is for Coogler to start penning the script for the sequel next year. From there, the studio is reportedly aiming to start production on Black Panther 2 in late 2019 or early 2020.

Black Panther aside, Coogler’s got a pretty full plate, with tons of big films coming down the pipeline.

For starters, the director will be reuniting with fellow Black Panther vet Michael B. Jordan on the upcoming drama Wrong Answer. The film, which currently has no release date attached to it, centers on a math teacher in Atlanta who tries to get funding for his school by altering his students’ test scores.

Though Coogler is not returning to direct Creed II, he will be serving as executive producer on the sports drama, due out next month on November 21.

Additionally, we learned just last month that Coogler had also signed on to produce the upcoming Space Jam sequel which will star NBA heavy hitter LeBron James.

As excited as we are for some of Coogler’s other projects, we’re definitely looking forward to seeing what themes he explores in Black Panther 2!
