Russell Crowe is back on the press circuit for his new film Broken City, and during a recent interview he discussed his role in Man of Steel and how no one has “really tried to get into the psychology of what it must be like to be Superman.”

Crowe stars alongside Mark Wahlberg and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Broken City, which opens in theaters this Friday. Reelz recently had him on their show for Broken City, but what interested us most was what he had to say about director Zack Snyder and the next Superman reboot Man of Steel. As we know, Russell Crowe will be playing Superman’s father, Jor-El, and from the official Man of Steel trailer it appears he may have a substantial role in the film.

Crowe says that Man of Steel is “very complicated,” and says that director Zack Snyder deals with how people would truly respond if someone like Superman “popped up in society.” He went on to say that the cast was honored to work on such an iconic character, as he felt Superman was “at the top of the food chain” in terms of superheroes. Skip to 3:53 to hear Russell Crowe discuss Man of Steel.

Crowe seems to be very excited with what director Zack Snyder has done with the film thus far and agrees that it’s a “massive undertaking.” He says it won’t be like previous films which may have felt like they were simply missing something. He explains that, when Superman flies, he won’t be “mucking around…he goes supersonic.”

We are just as excited to see what this incredible cast and crew do with the Superman source material. Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Superman and hits theaters June 14, 2013.
