The end scene of Dark Knight Rises, for all eight of you that have yet to see it, drops some heavy implications about the future of Batman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, now new rumors suggest that we’ll actually see Levitt put on the cowl for the upcoming Justice League.

Dark Knight Rises spoilers will follow, obviously.

We saw Joseph Gordon Levitt “rise” in The Dark Knight Rises so there’s no question who would be picking up the Batman mantle for the non-existant remainder of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight universe. We just never thought we would get to see it.

According to an exclusive report from HitFix, (via CBM) the actor is in final negotiations to star as Batman in Warner Bros.’ Justice League.

Although ties have already been made to the Zack Snyder directed Man of Steel and Justice League, it wasn’t made clear if DC was planning to add Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy into the Justice League universe.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has said in the past that he would be game to continue the franchise if the right idea and the right director came through the pipeline, so if Warner Bros. has something cool up their sleeve, he might just sign up.

The actor didn’t bring up Justice League in our interview with him, but Warner Bros. certainly has profited enough from the Dark Knight franchise to put real effort into finding and funding the right director and screenwriter.

On the other hand, fans of the Dark Knight trilogy might have recognized that Officer “Robin” John Blake, might be ill-equipped to take up the mantle. Bruce Wayne had an extraordinary amount of training in a number of martial ninja arts, and while Blake is certainly a trained officer, The Dark Knight proved with the Batman impersonators that it takes more than just the police academy to train someone to be the caped crusader.

The report drops a hint that we may be getting a quick Marvel-style cameo either during or after Man of Steel to whet appetites for Justice League starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and one other Dark Knight franchise character.

That’s right, the report indicates that one other actor from the Dark Knight franchise might be joining Levitt, but it doesn’t specify which one. Makes sense, every Batman needs his Alfred (or Fox).

Update: According to Hollywood.com, representatives of Joseph Gordon-Levitt have denied these rumors entirely. At the moment the whole fiasco is a little “this website said/that website said” and since both websites are credible, we’re not sure which way this will swing. We’ll keep you updated when an official announcement is made.
