Here’s the deal, earlier tonight at a press junket (according to Slashfilm) Robert Downey Jr. dropped the word that they would be filming an additional scene for The Avengers after the junket was over.

After Robert Downey Jr.’s own personal “I am Iron Man” moment (during which, producer Kevin Feige reportedly did not look pleased), Joss Whedon denied the statement, but now Mark Ruffalo has come forward to say that Mr. Stark was telling the truth.

From The Playlist:

“We’re shooting a scene tonight. I’m not sure exactly where it’s gonna go. All I know is that someone came in with the costume and said, ‘Here’s some wardrobe. We don’t know where you’re going to be or what you’re doing.’ ” Ruffalo said. We asked if it will be in the “The Avengers” when it hits theaters Ruffalo added, “Yeah. So I’m like, ‘All right, when are we doing that?’ Today after we’re done.”

What could it possibly be? According to many reports, the current cut of the film has the traditional Marvel post-credits extra scene, but could there be something else that’s super secret that the Avengers are being assembled to film? Is it just a pickup or a reshoot?

Since the current after-credits scene is said to hint towards a possible Avengers 2, will this new scene tease another standalone film like Iron Man 3? What about Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man? Is there even a scene being shot?
