Rugrats is gearing up to make its grand return to Nickelodeon, meaning soon fans of the hit 90s cartoon will get to enjoy more adventures with Tommy, Chucky, and the rest of the gang!

According to Variety, Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures are officially relaunching the ’90s Nick-tune, Rugrats.

The animated series, which originally premiered back in 1990, has been given a 26-episode series order by the television network.

In addition to Nickelodeon’s plans to put everyone’s favorite babies back on the small screen, Paramount Pictures is also working on bringing Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Angelica, and Susie back on the big screen.

We’ve seen full length animated features involving all of our favorite Rugrats characters in the past, but this time the studio is eyeing a live-action adaptation which would feature CGI characters.

The idea of a live-action, CGI rendition of Rugrats sounds a bit terrifying if we’re being quite honest, but we’ll wait and pass judgement on this idea until we at least see some concept art!

Paramount Pictures has tapped David Goodman to pen the script for the big screen adventure, which is slated to debut the Rugrats movie in theaters on November 13, 2020.

As for the upcoming television series relaunch, fans who tune in can expect to see all their old favorites back in action, along with “a new world of characters.” As for who’ll be working on the show behind the scenes, Nickelodeon has already locked in a slew of key players who will be returning to work on the new batch of episodes.

Original series creators Arlene Classy, Gabor Csupo and Paul Germain have all signed on to return as executive producers of the new episodes.

Currently, there haven’t been any casting announcements for the new iteration of the show, but it’s expected that Nickelodeon will have more news to share on that in the coming months.

We’ll also have to hang tight for word on when we can expect the new season to premiere via Nickelodeon.
