Roswell, New Mexico needs to be on the top of your list of shows to catch up on this summer.

Ah, summer. A time for sun, sand, and snuggling down to catch up on all of the shows that you’ve missed over the fall and winter! Unfortunately, since spending all of your time indoors with your Netflix account is a great way to develop a Vitamin D deficiency, you have to be discerning when deciding which shows to spend your time on over the next couple months.

You want your summer shows to be just like your summer. Fun, hot, romantic, action-packed and filled to the brim with laughter, maybe a few screams, and a lot of intrigue. You want a summer, and a summer binge show, that you hope will never end.

Roswell, New Mexico is exactly the show you’re looking for.

Roswell, New Mexico is a show about Liz Ortecho and the town that she’s reluctantly decided to call home again after 10 years away. Roswell is a quaint little town with a big reputation. People come from far and wide because they believe that an alien spacecraft landed in the town. Spoiler alert: they’re right.

Liz finds out just how right they are when she meets Max Evans, one of three alien siblings who have been passing themselves off as normal Roswell citizens for years. Mystery, drama, and romance ensue, in each of the incredible 13 episodes that make up the first season of Roswell, New Mexico. If you’re not sold yet, don’t worry, there are so many more reasons why Roswell, New Mexico needs to be on your summer binge list.

First of all, it’s set in the gorgeous, expansive, New Mexico desert, which will actually make you want to get out and explore your surroundings this summer. As soon as you finish binging the show, of course.

The only thing more beautiful than the scenery is the cast. I mean, it is a CW show, so that’s not exactly surprising, but there is one perk to Roswell, New Mexico that most CW shows don’t offer.

The characters in this show are all in their 30s, as opposed to the “high school students” that populate most of the network’s offerings, so you don’t have to feel even a little bit creepy about drooling over them! The show is jam-packed with swoon-worthy men and women who are well above legal age.

Now, eye candy is definitely important, but it’s nothing you can’t find at your local beach or the community pool this summer. So what else does Roswell, New Mexico have to offer?

Most importantly, the romance will keep you drowning in ships. If there’s anything better than staring at beautiful individuals (I wasn’t quite ready to move on from how hot they are), it’s ogling at gorgeous couples doing the things that couples do best (get your head out of the gutter, it’s a CW show).

The show’s only had one season, and there are already so many highly ship-able couples and even a love triangle that I can tell is going to be perfectly and wonderfully torturous for seasons to come. You don’t need to deal with real relationship drama when you have great TV!

The mystery on the show is so intriguing, and will keep you glued to your seat through those hot summer nights. The show has set up a really interesting world and amazingly relatable characters, so you’ll get extremely tied up in the delicious little mysteries of the show’s first season.

The show is accompanied by a soundtrack that will definitely be the new backbone of your summer playlist. Tons of beautiful exclusive covers of hit ’90s rock songs fill out an already incredible soundtrack. Warning: these might just hit you with some hard nostalgia, which will just make the show’s emotional musical moments even better for you.

On top of all of that, Roswell, New Mexico delivers the perfect amount of supernatural intrigue. I think summer is the perfect time to watch monster shows. Being outside more, attending public events (which is where the supernatural stuff always goes down, camping, longer days, later nights, drive-in movies…all of these summer activities lend themselves to making the monster stuff just the right kind of thrilling.

While some kinds of monsters have been done to death, sometimes literally, in pop culture, Roswell, New Mexico’s powerful aliens are a refreshing departure from the norm. The show will make you fall in love with a whole new brand of supernatural, while you’re falling in love with all of the other amazing things the show has to offer.

For all of these reasons and more, put Roswell, New Mexico on the top of your summer binge list before it’s too late.
