The new movie Instant Family starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne looks adorable and shines an important light on the need for foster families.

A new trailer was released for the movie Instant Family starring Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg, and while the movie looks like a warm-hearted comedy about a family, it also has an important message. This movie is all about creating a family through the foster system, which isn’t something we often see talked about in movies but is incredibly important.

And while Instant Family does shine a light on the need for loving homes for foster kids, the trailer released for the film shows that while this movie will have its share of drama and heartwarming moments, it isn’t going to be short on laughs either.

It’s a big decision to choose to start a family, but not every couple can (or has a desire to) have biological children. That was the case for Sean and Beth Anders when they decided they were ready to start having kids. Because they both felt they were a bit too old to have an infant, after a bit of discussion they ended up looking into the foster care system to adopt a child.

However, while they were initially planning to adopt one kid, they ended up falling in love with three siblings and welcoming all three kids into their family. And the Anders’ experiences creating a unique but beautiful new family inspired Sean to write and direct Instant Family.

While the film is inspired by the Anders’ story, it isn’t a direct retelling, and elements of the film (like Wahlberg and Byrne’s characters adopting a teenage girl) were borrowed from the stories of friends of Anders’. Still, it’s great to see such an important topic get talked about in movies in a way that feels authentic and true to the stories of adoptees and foster families.

Plus, Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg seem to have great chemistry on screen together, and even in the small amount of footage from the trailer, you can’t help but root for the family they’re working to build. And with the rest of the cast rounded out with talented actors like Octavia Spencer and Tig Notaro, this isn’t a movie to miss.

In a time where the news is so disheartening, it’s refreshing to see a sweet and funny story inspired by real events. Thankfully, you don’t have to wait too long to see this one yourself. You can see Instant Family when the movie opens in theaters on November 16.
