Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) has signed on to star in an adaptation of Colm Tóibín’s novel, Brooklyn, penned by Nick Hornby (An Education).

Variety reports:

Mara will play Ellis Lacey, who reluctantly leaves her rural Irish community to take up a job offer in America. She settles in Brooklyn, gradually overcomes her homesickness, and starts to enjoy the greater freedom of New York. She falls in love, but when tragic news calls her back to Ireland, she meets another man, and has to choose between her old and new lives.

Author Nick Hornby, who has penned novel’s such as About a Boy, High Fidelity and Fever Pitch, as well as the screenplay for the Oscar-nominated An Education, is writing the script. Producers Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey are working on finding a director for the project, with an eye to begin production in spring 2013. Are you interested in seeing this?
