Sons of Anarchy and Hellboy star Ron Perlman has joined J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor and designated bad-ass will play a goblin in the Wizarding World / Harry Potter spinoff. No other details were shared, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate!

Perlman is an American actor, so unless David Yates and his team are asking the star to come up with an English accent, one can presume this goblin will be a resident of the United States.

Harry Potter fans know that goblins are short creatures. So how will Perlman, who’s 6-feet, 1-inch tall according to IMDb, portray one of the little guys? Maybe he’ll be voicing a goblin, or maybe he’ll be playing a new type of goblin we haven’t encountered before in the Wizarding World.

There’s also a chance he’s playing a half-goblin. We all know one of those — his name is Filius Flitwick.

Fantastic Beasts is set in 1920’s New York while Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) pays the town a visit. Perlman actually was born in Manhattan in 1950, so maybe filmmakers were confident he’d be able to bring “authentic” New York acting to the gig (Yes, I’m vamping here since there’s not much to talk about).

Shooting on Fantastic Beasts is currently underway in England at Leavesden Studios, where the original 8 Harry Potter films were shot.

Fantastic Beasts opens next November and is part of “at least” a trilogy. The script is by J.K. Rowling and David Yates is back in the director’s chair.

Do you think Perlman is truly playing a goblin? Has J.K. Rowling created a new version of the species?

Other recent additions to the cast include Gemma Chan, Carmen Ejogo, and Jon Voight.
