Unexpectedly, Ron Burgundy can now add “Proven Car Salesman” to his resume full of television news jobs.

The Anchorman star portrayed by Will Ferrell – who will reprise his role in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues next month – teamed up with Dodge in October to release a slew of commercials promoting their 2014 Durango vehicle.

Since then, Bloomberg has learned that sales of the Durango went up 59% in October with 5,120 cars sold. In addition, traffic to the Dodge website has increased 80%.

Dodge and Anchorman 2 released the commercials on YouTube in early October and each one featured Ron interacting with the vehicle. Chrysler reportedly didn’t pay for the commercials because they also promote the new movie.

Our personal favorite of the bunch is the one below where the newsman touts the features of the glove compartment:

“Ron Burgundy as the new Dodge Durango spokesperson brings together two iconic American legends,” said Josh Greenstein, CMO of Paramount Pictures in a press release last month. “This campaign was an unprecedented opportunity to collaborate with our filmmakers to create new original content and distribute it worldwide in advance of the long awaited Anchorman sequel release this December. With the personal involvement of Will Ferrell, our writer / director Adam McKay, the comedy team at Funny or Die, and the Dodge creative team at Wieden+Kennedy, we were able to create a truly epic partnership.”

Anchorman 2 hits theaters on December 20. Earlier this week we learned that Paramount plans to sell “SuperTickets” which will allow diehard Ron Burgundy fans to see the movie in select AMC theaters two days early. Also this week we were treated to character posters for the highly-anticipated sequel.
