Atari has a very special gift for those of us who played PC games in the early 2000s: The original Rollercoaster Tycoon is now available for iOS and Android!

Yes, when I say “original” I truly mean original. Atari has ported the full Rollercoaster Tycoon (and its sequel) over to iOS and Android. The game is available now for $5.99 in iTunes and Android, with three expansions — Wacky Worlds, Time Twister and Toolkit (which lets you build your own Scenarios) — available for purchase in-app.

Rollercoaster Tycoon originally debuted in 1999. For those of you who missed out on the fun, it’s a game that lets you build and manage your own colorful theme parks. It was very popular in the early 2000s thanks to its open-ended gameplay, unique graphics, and so much more.

I’ve spent a few minutes with the game and can report it’s the game you know and love. The music, the attractions, the missions, and the UI are all there. It’s amazing, especially because we had little warning that this was coming.

Interestingly — and thankfully — Atari kept the same user interface from the original game. It works just how you remember. The game, which was designed with a keyboard and mouse in mind, doesn’t mesh perfectly well with today’s touch screen world, but it’s hard to complain when everything is still in tact.

Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic’s release comes just a week after Nintendo released Super Mario Run to much fanfare. I haven’t spent $9.99 on Mario, but I did spend $5.99 without questioning it for RCT Classic. Run’s release looks embarrassing compared to an old favorite like RCT coming to iOS and Android in its full glory.

Atari has released other Rollercoaster Tycoon games in recent years, including a couple for iOS and Android. But they’re not the original.
