Legendary film critic Roger Ebert has passed away at the age of 70.

According to The Chicago Sun-Times, their legendary film critic Roger Ebert has passed away at the age of 70 after losing his battle with cancer. On Tuesday Ebert announced that his cancer had returned and that he would be taking a “leave of presence.” “I am not going away,” he said. “My intent is to continue to write selected reviews but to leave the rest to a talented team of writers hand-picked and greatly admired by me.”

We here at Hypable are deeply saddened by his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ebert’s family and friends. We are not only big fans of movies, but we’re fans of the art of reviewing too. Nobody did this like Ebert. He is without a doubt the best known film critic of all-time, and even in the age of the internet, it is unlikely that anyone will ever reach Ebert’s power and influence.

Up until his passing, he was still regarded as the most influential critic. In his sickness it would sometimes take a while for him to see films to review, and fans would be begging for his opinions.

It goes without saying that Ebert has left a mark on the industry that most can only strive for. Most can only hope to leave a mark, but Ebert will never be forgotten.

Goodnight, Roger.
