A Rocky Horror Picture Show remake is in the works at Fox television!

EW reports that Fox and director Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) are teaming up for the Rocky Horror Picture Show remake, which will use the script from the original by Jim Sharman and Richard O’Brien. The network is planning a two hour event.

Unlike NBC’s recent live musicals The Sound of Music and Peter Pan, and Fox’s forthcoming presentation of Grease, the remake will not be broadcast live. EW speculates this may help the remake line up big stars whose schedules would otherwise make them unavailable.

An air date for the show has not been set.

The original Rocky Horror Picture Show is now 40 years old and has remained a popular film to see at midnight in movie theaters across the country.

Despite its place in pop culture (it holds the title of longest-running theatrical release in movie history), Fox may suspect there’s a large swath of young adults who’ve never seen Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a remake is the perfect way to grab an audience. And with the right cast, it’ll surely pique the interest of those who love the original.

Now the fantasy casting begins…
