Netflix is bringing back your favorite ’90s cartoon wallaby this August with Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling.

In the early ’90s, Nickelodeon aired the strange, subversive cartoon Rocko’s Modern Life, a show about a timid Australian wallaby named Rocko, his slow and simple cow friend, Heffer, and his neurotic turtle friend, Filburt.

Like the title of the show suggests, the storylines essentially followed Rocko and his friends as they encountered a variety of absurd situated and confronted preposterous dilemmas associated with what would normally be the more mundane aspects of modern life.

Rocko’s Modern Life is an edgier cartoon than Nickelodeon’s current offerings, following the anthropomorphized animals on their adventures in their home of O-Town, a place populated with a variety of animal characters like Gladys the Hippo Lady and Squirmy the Ringworm, many of whom were rather mentally unstable.

After 52 episodes and four seasons, Rocko’s Modern Life was cancelled in 1996, though many of its crew — including creative director Stephen Hillenburg — went on to create and then work on Spongebob Squarepants.

Now, over 20 years after its cancellation, Rocko is back once more on the small screen, with fans of his own and a whole new set of modern problems to deal with.

The official synopsis released by Netflix gives us more background information, such as where Rocko has been all this time and what aspects of modern life he’ll need to contend with:

After being in space for around 20 years, Rocko and his friends attempt to conform to an even more modern life in O-Town, where coffee shops are on every corner, food trucks offer multi-layered tacos, touch-screen O-Phones are being upgraded on a near-constant basis, an instant-print kiosk has replaced Rocko’s old job at Kind-of-a-Lot-O-Comics, and radioactive energy drinks turn their consumers into mutants.

Rocko’s creator, Joe Murray, is writing and directing Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, which will also feature all the original voice actors from the show (plus a few new fun additions)!

Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling will premiere on Netflix on August 9. Make sure to head over to your Netflix account and add it to your list!
