Marin County police shared more details about the death of actor Robin Williams on Tuesday.

Lt. Keith Boyd confirmed Tuesday morning during a press conference that Williams had been seeking treatment for depression in recent weeks. He was last seen alive by his wife on Sunday night before she went to bed. Williams retired for the night in a separate room of the house.

Mrs. Williams left the house the next morning around 10:30 a.m and didn’t check on him because she assumed he was still sleeping. An assistant entered Mr. Williams’ room over a hour later after he didn’t respond to knocks on the door. A call to police was made at 11:55 a.m. and authorities arrived five minutes later.

Williams was found with a belt around his neck suspended between a door and a door frame. Cuts on his wrist and a pocket knife were found as well. Preliminary reports conclude the cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging.

A reporter at the press conference asked if a note was left behind, and Boyd said they weren’t ready to answer that question today.

It is unknown at this time if there were drugs in his body when he died, but toxicology reports are now being conducted and will take two – six weeks to process.

Williams was 63 years old. Since police announced his death on Monday afternoon, an outpouring of support has emerged from the Hollywood community.

“This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken,” said his wife in a statement on Monday. “On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”
