Robert Pattinson has found his next big post-Twilight role, joining Carey Mulligan in the thriller Hold On To Me from Oscar-winning director James Marsh (Man on Wire).

Deadline reports the film “is based on a true story about a femme fatale who with her boyfriend kidnaps and ransoms the town’s richest man. They bury him in a box and things go horribly awry.”

Pattinson is set to play “the woman’s life love, Jimmy,” a supporting role described as “flashy” which will certainly be interesting to see as Pattinson branches out from his Twilight role.

The film was scripted by Brad Ingelsby, who also contributed to Out of the Furnace, the upcoming film from Crazy Heart director Scott Cooper. Oscar-nominated director of In the Bedroom and Little Children Todd Field was originally set to helm the project, but had to pull out due to other commitments. He is currently on board as a producer. Alexandra Milchan is producing the project with Indian Paintbrush.

For Pattinson, who recently starred in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, this is just the latest in a long line of post-Twilight projects he’s become attached to. He’s set to play a young T.E. Lawrence in Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert, will co-star in Rover with Guy Pearce, and will hunt down Suddam Hussein in Mission: Blacklist. These films will certainly keep Pattinson’s 2013 busy, as he begins to distance himself from the Twilight franchise.

Mulligan, meanwhile, is set to appear in the just-released The Great Gatsby, which is now set to be released in summer 2013.

Production will likely begin in the coming months, as the report speculates “early 2013,” so we expect to see further casting on the project as the year comes to a close. We’ll be sure to keep a close eye on any casting pertaining to the project.
