The Iron Man 3 cast and crew (and Marvel Studios) have been awaiting this glorious day and it has now arrived. Robert Downey Jr. has finally returned to set after battling an ankle injury that occurred during filming in North Carolina.
With Iron Man 3 now filming in Florida, Robert Downey Jr. made his first appearance on set in the Sunshine State today. But, lets not kid ourselves – filming continued on without the film’s leading man, but we can’t imagine it was quite the same without the Iron funny-man around to create limitless blooper reels.
But you needn’t worry, Iron Man looked happier than ever to be back on the set of Iron Man 3, which will hit theaters May 3, 2013. You may have even gotten to enjoy Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in The Avengers if you happened to pick up the film’s DVD/Blu-ray last Tuesday (we know you did, we did, too). The Avengers blooper reel featured multiple outtakes from Downey as he continues to impress with his massive presence on camera and his nonchalant, albeit incredibly fun attitude on set.
The new Iron Man 3 suit is also on display, which is still looking quite gold, much to the chagrin of a majority of fans who saw the new suit back when it was revealed during Comic-Con 2012.
We also catch our first good glimpse of the Iron Patriot suit in one of the shots, as well as one under a black sheet at Dania Beach. This armor is actually rumored to be a newly painted War Machine suit that Rhodey will be wearing. Rumors have swirled that he will be protecting the President of the United States in Iron Man 3, and what better way to show you’re protecting the POTUS than to paint your suit of armor red, white, and blue?
The first Iron Man 3 teaser trailer will be released on October 23.
