Riz Ahmed could be making a huge splash on Netflix very soon!

According to Deadline, the Emmy award winning actor is currently nearing a deal to star in Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Riz Ahmed would be playing the titular role off a script developed by himself and writer Mike Lesslie (known for his work on Macbeth and Assassin’s Creed).

Ahmed and Lesslie’s version is billed as a contemporary adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, and is set in modern-day London in a time of economic and political uncertainty.

The story center around themes of familial honor, moral duty, and dynastic corruption.

Ahmed’s potential partnership with Netflix is merely one of many exciting projects the actor and MC has coming down the pipeline.

On top of his big Emmy win for HBO’s The Night Of earlier this year, fans of the Star Wars: Rogue One star will be seeing plenty of Ahmed on the big screen in the coming years.

In 2018, Ahmed is set to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix and Jake Gyllenhaal in the upcoming wester, The Sisters Brothers. The film centers around a gold prospector who’s being pursued across 1000 miles of 1850s Oregon Desert to San Francisco by a pair of notorious assassins.

Recently, we also learned that Ahmed will also be featured in Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man spinoff, Venom. Ahmed’s role for the film is being kept firmly under wraps for now, but we’re sure fans will be excited to see him star opposite Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams in the upcoming superhero blockbuster.

There’s no word yet on when we might see Ahmed’s Hamlet hit Netflix, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we’ve got an official release date!
