Riverdale season 4, episode 15, “Chapter Seventy-Two: To Die For” kept us guessing from start to finish.

Riverdale season 4, episode 15 was an absolute rollercoaster. An absolutely brilliant rollercoaster.

There wasn’t one moment of this episode that I didn’t spend desperately trying to figure out what every character was thinking. It was a perfectly woven web of emotion and intrigue, and probably the best episode of Riverdale season 4.

The episode began with the grieving process that was so obviously missing from the episode that followed Jughead’s death. We finally saw at least a few tears from Betty as she accepted the phone call from Yale and entertained Alice’s thoughtless documentary questions.

We even got a funeral for Jughead in Riverdale season 4, episode 15, but the most emotional part of that was seeing Sweet Pea for the first time in forever! F.P.’s speech was brief, Betty’s was impersonal, and the scene seemed much better set for combat than condolences.

While the episode began with mourning, the sadness soon gave way to more scheming. Everyone seemed to have a plan. Nobody was scared or upset, they were determined. Donna and Bret questioning if Jughead was alive or dead only made things way more confusing. I watched every scene in the middle of Riverdale season 4, episode 15 with my mouth wide open, just trying to get a single clue as to what was happening.

And then, the Barchie kiss happened. Sorry closeted (and not-so-closeted) Barchie shippers, but at this point, Riverdale all but confirmed that there was something awry. The kiss was far from earned and Veronica’s reaction was way too heavyhanded for the kiss to be a real development in the plot.

After this, I was content in my knowledge that Jughead was alive, and excited to move on to the next phase in their plan. I had no idea why Jughead was faking his death or what everyone’s involvement actually was, but I felt like everyone knew what they were doing and I sat back to watch the Stonies squirm.

And then, Varchie was in bed together! Throughout their whole conversation I thought, “are they actually confirming that this is fake?” And THEN…Jughead was alive! I felt like I screamed out loud in every other scene of Riverdale season 4, episode 15, but Jughead definitely warranted the biggest yelp.

I was so ecstatic to see him back on Riverdale. As confident as I’ve been that he’s alive, there was always a chance that he was really gone, so to get confirmation this soon in the season felt great.

However, the final and most brilliant thing that Riverdale season 4, episode 15 did is the thing that actually has me worried.

Ironically, this is the most nervous I’ve ever been that Jughead will die in Riverdale season 4. I was expecting the show to draw out this reveal until the end of the season, but the fact that they revealed it now makes me nervous that something really bad will happen in season 4.

So we now know that the Stonewall Prep kids tried to kill Jughead so they could frame Betty, which is fully insane. It sounds like Donna also killed Jonathan for not doing a good enough job on the evidence, so she’s a full on serial killer. Cool. I’m nervous.

Betty thinks they have the upperhand on the Stonies, but I think she might be wrong. It makes absolutely no sense that Hermosa would turn around and help Veronica after being such a complete bitch for the entire season. There’s something weird about her last minute switch.

My theory is that Hermosa is actually related to Donna. Whether she’s really Hiram’s daughter or not, it doesn’t even matter. I think she knows Donna, and Donna slipped her some fake information to coerce Jughead out into the open. She’s not ready to back down, and I don’t think we’ve seen her last move.

The other thing that Riverdale pulled at the end of season 4, episode 15, was floating the potential of a real Barchie reunion in front of us. Those texts were flirty AF, so anything can happen, and I have no idea what to think anymore! That was a damn good episode of Riverdale.

That’s almost it for this week. However, since it’s Riverdale’s senior year, each week I will be giving out some yearbook superlatives for the episode. Check them out here!

‘Riverdale’ season 4, episode 15 awards

Cutest couple: I’m giving it to Barchie because we might never see a Barchie kiss again! Then again…
Best dressed: Jughead gets it just for being in the episode because I was so excited to see him. However, the new homemade beanie was just the cherry on top.
Worst dressed: Hermosa. She’s nothing but a poor man’s Veronica.
Most likely to sell someone out for a buck: Alice. The murder documentary was not a great look.
Most likely to pick up at a funeral: Cheryl. That girl was thirsty for some second-hand trauma.
