Riverdale has come to a close but that doesn’t mean the mysteries will ever stop.

Marisol Nichols A.K.A Hermione Lodge took some time to talk with Hypable about her character, season 1’s finale and the upcoming season 2. Of course not too much could be revealed before tonight’s finale, but it is clear, just because Jason’s murder looks to be wrapping up does not mean the mysteries will stop. In fact, the town of Riverdale might get even creepier.

Riverdale is not the exact replica of the Archie comics.

No they’re not (laughs)

Were you a fan of Archie and how did you feel about the show making so many changes?

I’m kind of glad it changed because I’m a fan of anything dark and mysterious, I like that kind of thing. And Archie, as iconic as it was, it wasn’t very dark. So when they said they were redoing it I said, “Oh it’ll be comedy.” But when I heard how Roberto (creator) wanted to take the show, then I was really, really interested.

Do you think Riverdale is contributing to a trend of not just reviving shows, but changing them into shows we want to see?

I think so. I mean if you are going to update a show and you are going to do a show again, you have to update it. Because it was so long ago when it was created, it has to be updated, you know?

Yeah, and I think also what is unique about Riverdale is how involved the adults are, including your character.

Yeah, which is really nice for me!

It’s probably accurate to say that most of the scandal stems from the adults.

Yeah (laughs). Some of it, certainly, yup.

Since the murder mystery seems to be wrapping up, will some of those scandals continue into the next season?

Oh for sure. I’ll tell you this, Hiram is coming back, we know that from the last episode. Hiram is a walking scandal, and that will be interesting for season 2. And at the end of this next episode you will see definitely a new sort of mystery unfold that will carry us into season 2.

Talking about the murder – like any murder mystery show – fans get very into it and watch the show with a magnified glass to try and catch any clues. So, were you aware of your character’s involvement, or that you weren’t involved.

I just assumed that I wasn’t involved because I was in New York. But I think it was brought up that I could have taken the train back, and I was like what?

There are many theories.

Yeah, there were tons of ways that she could have been but I’m very glad that I found out that I wasn’t.

Talking about theories, in the few months this show has been on there have been so many theories, especially since the comics have so many spin-offs. Have you heard of the zombie theory, based off the spin-off?

Oh yeah!

Would that be something the show should explore, or do you think a murder mystery is enough?

I think murder mystery is enough, personally, but that doesn’t say – I would love to see that supernatural element come in. I just don’t know if we need that right off at the second season. I think we are still establishing who everyone is and where they came from, all of that stuff.

Finally the killer is revealed, of course you knew what happened. First of all, were you satisfied with the end?

I was shocked, and yeah I think I was. I was more intrigued. I was a little bummed that Clifford killed himself, I was like “Ugh, you coward, come on!” But it is what it is. But I do feel that it — wait for the next episode because I do like how it is wrapped up.

So you think the fans will appreciate it then?

I do, yeah.

In season 2, Hiram is coming back and there will be lots of scandals, the mystery surrounding Clifford Blossom’s death. Is there anything you can…

That I can tease? I would say….I can’t give away any spoilers. The fans will kill me and so will my bosses. All I can say is at the end of the episode, it’s kind of what I said before, we will be reintroduced to the mystery of season 2.

‘Riverdale’ season 2 finale airs tonight, Thursday May 11
