Academy Award winner Rita Moreno is heading back to the silver screen for another musical.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, EGOT winner Rita Moreno has officially signed on to star in the upcoming adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award winning musical, In The Heights.

Moreno will take on the role of Abuela Claudia in the upcoming adaptation which is being directed by Crazy Rich Asians helmer John M. Chu. She’s considered to be the neighborhood matriarch and additionally had a hand in raising main character Usnavi.

These days, Moreno can be seen co-starring on Netflix’s hit sit-com, One Day At A Time. Though we’ve enjoyed seeing her play the dramatic, but ever supportive Abuelita on the incredibly diverse show, it’s great to hear Moreno is going back to her roots.

The EGOT winner notably took home the Oscar for her role as Anita in West Side Story, so we’re sure musical theater fans will be especially excited to hear that she’s involved in the upcoming adaptation.

As for the role of Usnavi, we learned just last month that Hamilton vet Anthony Ramos would be taking on the role of the bodega owner in the Warner Brothers project.

Ramos, who can currently be seen starring opposite Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born, recently assumed the role of Usnavi during In The Heights’ returning run at the Kennedy Center earlier this year.

We’ll be excited to see how Moreno and Ramos play off of each other when the adaptation hits the big screen!
