Ridley Scott is a busy man, but he might have time for Blade Runner 2 after all, as he retracts comments stating that he wouldn’t be directing the sequel.

Last week, we reported that Ridley Scott had stepped back from the long-awaited Blade Runner 2, which has been in development for many years.

While the 77-year-old director has been heavily involved with crafting the sequel’s storyline, he previously stated that he likely wouldn’t be directing.

But while promoting his new epic Exodus: Gods and Kings, Scott backtracked on his statements.

Speaking to Yahoo, the director says, “I don’t know about [not directing it] yet”, adding that he’d be hard-pressed to find another director who could take on the job.

“It’s a hard one to track because it’s a very personal piece of my work. Blade Runner may be one of the most personal pieces I did,” Scott says.

The problem is that Scott has already got another project lined up: the adaptation of Andy Weir’s The Martian, which is currently in production. Blade Runner 2 was scheduled to start filming in 2015, so they’d have to push it back if they want Scott to stay on board.

And it may be that Scott decides to direct the Blade Runner sequel after all, simply because he won’t be willing to compromise his vision (which is a good thing!).

For the original 1982 Blade Runner, Scott recalls, “I got so beaten up for it, I said I’d never try that again. But here we are. It’s sitting there, ready to be made”.

And, “the script is very, very good. Very good,” he says. It might be too tempting to turn down – and we hope he doesn’t, because it wouldn’t be Blade Runner without Ridley Scott!

Scott has previously praised the script, saying, “we came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one.”

Harrison Ford (the star of the original film) will return for the sequel, but only briefly. Scott has revealed that the story revolves around finding his character Rick Deckard, and he’ll only turn up in the third act of the story.
