Rosie O’Donnell is back on television! Her new show The Rosie Show debuted last night on OWN! Check out what we thought of Rosie’s big return to the talk show stage.

I should start this review with letting everyone know that I am a huge Rosie O’Donnell fan. I grew up running home from school each day to watch her first talk show, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, where she flung Koosh Balls in to the audience and danced with Tom Cruise. It was a fun time. I also may or may not have received a Rosie O’Donnell doll as a Christmas gift last year from a close friend, but I can’t confirm these rumors.

But now, there are 10 year olds walking on this planet who may not even know who Rosie O’Donnell is!

For those of us who loved the light-hearted, fun times of The Rosie O’Donnell Show from 10 years ago, you’ll be happy to know: Rosie’s back!

The Rosie Show, which airs weekdays at 7pm on OWN is a whole different kind of talk show than anything that has ever been on TV. It has the feeling of being underrehearsed with the fly-by-the-seat vibe that usually ends up being the perfect recipe for Rosie and her fantastic personality to shine. Russell Brand, who I have never really understood or cared for, ended up being a hugely interesting and fantastic first guest. From shagging, his former addiction, to celebrity and fame, Rosie and Russell had a beautiful, funny, and interesting conversation.

Some people will say that the show has no direction and that it may have fallen flat because of the ‘all over the place’ feel that last night’s episode portrayed. But, I feel that this is what will make this show so great. In an era where most talk shows feel scripted, forced, and a bit gimmicky, The Rosie Show felt natural, fun, and compassionate. Rosie herself explains her show as a “talk show, game show, hybrid thing.”

Another thing I noticed is how this show will appeal to many different demographics. Young kids, college students, and adults alike could have found last night’s debut episode entertaining on some level. I think this is the secret ingredient that made The Rosie O’Donnell Show such a massive hit back in the day, and it’s clear they are heading down that path again!

We have daytime talk, late night talk and now maybe we have The Rosie Show changing things up right smack dab in the middle!

Check out The Rosie Show on OWN weekdays at 7pm.
