What’s in store for Daniel Grayson this season on Revenge? And what does actor Josh Bowman have a tattoo of that he says keeps him motivated? Find out more about Daniel’s character and the actor who plays him in this interview from Rolling Stone.

Daniel Grayson. He’s the privileged, handsome son of the infamous Victoria and Conrad Grayson, and heir to the Grayson Global empire. He has everything he could want in front of him, right?

We’d have to give that question a resounding no.

At least not since his failed engagement to the vindictive Emily Thorne, his father’s affair, his sister’s attempted suicide, and his mother’s supposed death. Now he’s being forced into a bigger role in his family’s company. But the stress might be getting to him, and working for his father isn’t exactly a cakewalk.

“The summer’s just starting, and Conrad is running Grayson Manor, so he’s like – it’s kind of like Scar’s lair in The Lion King. You know, when it’s all burning and it’s kind of dark and the ashes are there. It’s kind of [got a] very Hitchcock-y feel to it all.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Josh Bowman, who plays Daniel, revealed that he would like to work with the writers a little more in developing Daniel’s character. He’s currently being kept in the dark about the Initiative terrorist involvement of Grayson Global, and since Daniel is slated to take over the company, Bowman believes his character should be brought into the light.

“I think it’s important to be a part of that process, because we’re living these characters for 22 episodes and we want to make it believable. If he’s going to run the company, he’s got to have a f—— idea what’s going on.”

Bowman is still learning a lot about acting, but we think he’s doing a pretty good job at creating a complex character. He also talks about how he got his start into the trade, which came after multiple rugby injuries. He has some pretty high ambitions about where he wants to take his career.

“I love Danny Boyle, I love Woody Allen. I’m researching Billy Wilder. Ingmar Bergman. Christopher Nolan. I want to work with those guys, 100 percent I’m going to do my best to be in the same room as them and work hard to earn the right to work with them.”

When asked about where the best advice he’s ever gotten came from, Bowman responds:

“From the executive producer of our show, Marty Bowen: ‘Don’t be afraid to be great.’ And don’t be afraid to fail, that’s really what it’s about. I learned that in drama school. I’ve got a tattoo [on my side] that says, ‘Don’t let the bastards get you down,’ and I live by that.”

We look forward to seeing the 24-year-old develop as an actor, and how Bowman’s input will affect Daniel’s character throughout season 2, and possible beyond.
