Last week’s episode of Revenge brought us face-to-face with Kara Clarke, the woman who was locked up in a psych ward for trying to kill her daughter. Our Revenge recap covers how her presence has affected our favorite Hamptonite friends.

Emily finally comes to the realization that she might not like the person she finds in her mother (which is what Aiden tried to tell her). Aiden is there to offer comfort, but she keeps him at a distance, even though we think Emily might really need him.

Emily gets the chance to finally talk to her mother, even if she can’t really tell her that she’s really her daughter. By listening in on a few key moments between Kara and Amanda, she also gets to feel a sense of connection to her estranged mama. With Kara now staying next door to Emily at the Grayson’s home, we assume Emily’s going to be seeing a lot more of her.

Kara also spends some time with Amanda, who she believes to be her real daughter. Understandably, this Amanda doesn’t recognize Kara as her mother, which gives Emily and Amanda a chance to push Kara away.

Emily reveals to Amanda that as a child, Kara succeeded in drowning her, but didn’t kill her as she intended. After a sentimental talk full of forgiveness, however, Amanda forgives her “mom,” and Emily doesn’t blame her.

With Kara staying at Grayson Manor, they can hardly expect to see less of Kara Clarke. She could prove to be useful.

Which apparently, she already is. Now that Victoria has welcomed Kara into her home, she can keep an eye on her, since Victoria believes that Kara is the one responsible for sending the journals and blackmailing the Graysons.

Maybe she thinks Amanda is in on it too, and that she’s always known her mother is alive.

While at Victoria’s, Kara seems to be prying Victoria for information about Gordon Murphy, whom we learned was actually married to Kara. Kara also seems to think Victoria was infatuated with Murphy when Victoria was “kidnapped” by him. At least that’s how it seemed to us.

Victoria also tracks down Kara’s secret phone for reaching Gordon, and only sees outgoing calls to him, which she assumes is Kara feeding Gordon information. She worries that Kara knows to much, and Conrad’s response is to remarry Victoria so they can’t testify against each other if this all goes to court.

Neither of the women know that Murphy is actually dead, and both are trying to track him down for very different reasons.

Over at Grayson Global, Aiden is doing some snooping of his own, working as Takeda’s proxy and asking for complete transparency with his investments and the company’s actions. Aiden seems to be getting pretty chummy with Daniel and Ashley, now that Daniel is forced to be honest with Aiden.

Someone else is also doing a little investigating at Grayson Global – Padma is trying to find out if David Clarke’s investment with NolCorp came from Grayson Global. Stupid Padma, don’t get involved in matters that are way beyond your scope as NolCorp CFO.

Luckily, Aiden hears all of this and reports it to Emily, who reports it to Nolan. They need to put the kibosh on Padma’s little journalistic attempts.

Always the thinker, Aiden finds a way to spin the David Clarke investment story into a promotion for Daniel and an alliance of Grayson Global with Takeda and Aiden. So hopefully the David Clarke-NolCorp investment secret won’t get any further than the Daniel-Ashley-Aiden trio just yet.

Daniel is suspicious though, since he knows that NolCorp didn’t have any investments in Grayson Global 20 years ago – the first attempt came when Tyler tried unsuccessfully to bring NolCorp in last year.

Jack is also dealing with the aftermath of Declan’s brief dip into thieving, as Kenny tries to work his way into buying the Stowaway. We thought the remodeling guy Kenny referred Declan to would be a little shady, but it turns out he just wants to expedite potential bar ownership.

Jack agrees to talk to him about it, but what will Jack do if he doesn’t run the Stowaway?

All this time, Amanda has been worried that her baby wasn’t really Jack’s and wants to tell him now that they have their “happy little family.” Emily eases her mind and tells her the truth – that Jack really is the father. We thought this would enrage Amanda, but it seems to actually bring the two ladies closer together.

Another problem bound to bring Emily and Amanda closer is the creeping, slimy presence of Mason Treadwell. His surname being a misnomer, this author is getting himself too involved and is probably going to get himself killed.

As soon as Kara Clarke turns up, he is right there to greet her and do some digging. He also notices that Amanda was lacking a scar on her back she supposedly had, and is convinced that Amanda is not the real Amanda Clarke. He drops off a thick, mysterious folder, of which we don’t yet know its contents.

We’re not sure what dirt Treadwell seems to have on Amanda, because he doesn’t seem to imply that he knows Emily and Amanda switched identities. We think Emily will take care of Treadwell before it gets too far. Hopefully Emily will take up Aiden’s offer to work with him, instead of against him.

Will Emily and Amanda’s secret be exposed?
