The new season of Revenge kicked off last night, and we could not have asked for a better premiere. Here’s our Revenge recap. We’re off to a great start, folks.

Wow. What a season premiere.

We start off with a short scene in which the remains of a boat are being shown on the bottom of the ocean. And – surprise! – we find out it’s Jack’s beloved boat, the Amanda. Who is down in scuba gear surveying the sunken ship? Emily, of course.

Flash back three months.

Emily is tied to a pole in the ocean (nice segue), struggling to escape. Just when she is starting to retrieve some important memories about her mother, her fellow student Aiden comes to her aid (we couldn’t resist), and cuts her free. Instead of thanking him, Emily is upset and attacks him.

Takeda thinks Emily’s revenge is getting out of hand. He is responsible for bringing the pregnant Amanda Clarke back to town, and he agrees to let Aiden attempt to guide Emily back to the right path. It also appears we’ve had an actor swap on Takeda.

Daniel and Ashley are obviously together now. We wonder if there’s been much communication between Emily and Ashley of the past couple of months. We’re assuming they haven’t been chatting much. Ashley has also taken over the queen bee role at Grayson Manor, now that Victoria is out of the picture. Oh, and Daniel’s back on the drink. In every scene.

Jack is facing some problems of his own, aside from the Amanda issue, including the fact that The Stowaway didn’t pass its health code evaluation and it’s now facing closure. And the Amanda issue also seems to be driving a wedge between brothers Jack and Declan.

We get to learn just a little bit about Emily’s mother, who was presumed dead, when Emily and Nolan go to visit the abandoned mental hospital where she was being kept. Grayson Global is involved in the dealings of this hospital, and they definitely seem to have some part in Mrs. Clarke’s disappearance.

Emily finds out that her father went to visit her mother during the last week of his life (presumably to ask her for a divorce), and Victoria also visited her under the name Charlotte Clarke. We’re still not 100% sure why she went, but we know the Graysons viewed Emily’s mother as a liability.

A memorial for Victoria takes place on a boat on Memorial Day, and Ashley is once again taking charge in her self-assumed new role as leading lady of the Grayson family. Daniel is drinking again, and argues with his father because he won’t put the shares of his inheritance into Grayson Global. At the memorial, Emily also finds out about Daniel and Ashley. Ouch.

All of this is happening one year after Emily first came to the Hamptons. After Ashley speaks of Victoria’s generous charity to the crowd, Charlotte gets up and says some sweet words about her mother. And then Charlotte gets some bad news.

Even though she’s been clean, her blood tests come back positive for drug use. She starts to flip out, blames her father for her blood test and for causing Victoria’s plane to crash. Then she whispers something in Emily’s ear, and Emily is noticeably shocked.

Cut to Victoria Grayson. Dead but not dead, much like Emily’s mother. She claims the government is keeping her safe while building the case against Conrad for his involvement in the Initiative terrorist organization and David Clarke’s arrest/murder. We don’t fully buy that, especially since we see her conspiring with the white-haired man later on.

We were hoping for a Victoria-Emily alliance, but it doesn’t seem like Victoria trusts Emily enough for that to even be a possibility. Maybe in the future. Probably not.

Victoria and Charlotte had been communicating with a secret phone, which Charlotte’s doctor/caseworker finds and assumes it’s how she’s been contacting her dealer. But it turns out that story is a cover because Conrad has hired him to help find information about Victoria. Conrad is also trying to de-legitimize Charlotte so he can get hold of her inheritance.

On the other side of the class line, Amanda seems to doubt Jack’s reasons for being with her, and she should be. Jack tells Nolan that he has a “duty” to uphold with the baby on the way, and that he doesn’t love Amanda. He meets with Emily to talk, and we have an emotional scene that makes us just want Jack and Emily to run away together and forget all of this.

Emily, always plotting, plants the seed of doubt in Jack’s head that Amanda’s baby might not be his. And that’s all it takes. A paternity test is in the works, and their relationship is on the rocks. We have our own doubts that Amanda is even actually pregnant.

Our guess is that Charlotte is going to play a much bigger role this season, especially as Emily builds a stronger relationship with her, and her father is breaking theirs apart. If Emily wants to get Charlotte out of rehab, she will. In the promo for next week, we hear Emily say that Victoria took her mom away, so now Emily will take Charlotte from Victoria.

Emily is definitely giving a lot of thought to her mother now, and our final scene shows her holding onto the strap from her mother’s bed at the psych ward. Not long, Em, we know she’s scheduled to make a return.

Lastly, we love our Nolan, so we’ve decided to include a few of our favorite “Nolan-isms” at the end of each recap. Share your favorites!

Let us know what you thought! We loved this premiere, but we still have so many questions.
