If it wasn’t fanmade, you might think these retro Pokémon Sword and Shield intros were for an official demaster of the latest Switch Pokémon games.

The lengths that superfans will go to when showing their love for their favorite series knows no bounds. When it comes to the passionate Pokémon fandom, the sky is the limit, as is proved by these excellent retro Pokémon Sword and Shield game intros.

Sindorman, the Instagram user who created the retro intros, asks, “What if Sword and Shield came out 18 years ago on the Gameboy color?” He continues to explain how “engrossed in Pokémon sword and shield” he has been since the games released, and how this sparked his interest in creating a fanmade intro for the titles as “if they came out on the Gameboy Color!”

Pokémon Gold and Silver, the games on which Sindorman based his art style, released in 2000 for the Nintendo Gameboy. In his intro, he shows what Dynamaxing would look like in a retro Pokémon Sword and Shield, paired with cute pixelated interactions of the starters, and a select screen portrait of the box legendaries Zacian and Zamazenta.

With the passion Nintendo fans have for handheld classics, it may only be a matter of time until official demasters of hit games in series such as Pokémon and The Legend of Zelda are announced. Would you play a demaster of Pokémon Sword and Shield?
