There’s more Resident Evil coming down the pipeline thanks to a new origin story movie currently in development!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Constantin Film is currently working on a brand new Resident Evil film which would serve as an origin story for the entire franchise.

Written and directed by Johannes Roberts, the prequel has already found its core cast members in actors Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Karmen, Robbie Amell, and Tom Hopper, all of whom were announced to have joined the cast of the forthcoming prequel on Tuesday (October 6).

Scodelario is set to play Claire Redfield— a character that fans of the video game will likely be familiar with. In the prequel, Claire will find herself traveling to Raccoon City to pay a visit to her brother. Speaking of Claire’s brother, Robbie Amell will be taking on the role of Chris Redfield for the movie.

Meanwhile, John-Karmen will play Jill Valentine, who works as a member of Raccoon City’s Special Tactics and Rescue Services, while Hopper will assume the role of a researcher at Umbrella Corporation named Albert Wesker.

Finally, Jogia will play Leon Kennedy— a federal counterterrorist agent.

Based on the hit horror video games, the studio’s Evil franchise has gone on to spawn a total of six movies, all of which have starred Mila Jovovich. Fans who’ve been keeping up with the saga will likely recall that the most recent film, The Final Chapter, hit the box office back in 2016.

This time around, the newest film in the saga will be bringing fans back to where things all began. Set in 1998 in the midwestern town of Raccoon City, the horror flick will focus on the origins of the zombie apocalypse, brought on by a bioweapon virus created by the Umbrella Corporation.

Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect the Resident Evil origin story movie to be released.
