Renegade Red pushes deeper into the crazy fae world of the Light trilogy and clears up a few mysteries regarding Callum, Noa, Judah, and Sasha.

Shattered Blue ended with one hell of a cliffhanger, and readers can rest assured that Renegade Red was worth the wait. It delivers on almost every promise, leaving us with just enough mystery and unresolved conflict to have us clamoring for the final chapter. Lauren Bird Horowitz definitely knows how to leave a reader wanting more.

About ‘Renegade Red’

Reckless, desperate, and distraught, Noa Sullivan leaps into a collapsing Portal in the explosive finale of Shattered Blue — the jaw-dropping, award-winning first installment in The Light Trilogy — in wild hope of rescuing her little sister Sasha. Now Noa and the Fae brothers who love her — Callum and Judah Forsythe — must find a way to survive not only across worlds but between them, in places so treacherous and deceptive their own minds are twisted against them. As the three fight to survive their passage, they battle not only enemies but themselves, and their darkest, most difficult secrets.

Surviving, however, is only the beginning: Noa needs to find Sasha. That means becoming a warrior herself, one just as fierce as the magical brothers battling for her love. Across broken cities, underground labyrinths, rushing floods and endless skies; in the face of legions of armies, horrifying tyrants, and the most deceitful of friends, can Mortal Noa rescue her sister—and understand her own heart—in time to escape the most deadly of magic realms?

‘Renegade Red’ book review

I remember being in shock at the end of Shattered Blue. I remember reading that closing chapter, and feeling like that book had exploded into a painful, blistering ball of greatness in it’s final moments. That feeling does not even compare to the rhythmic shards of heartbreak beating out of the final quarter of Renegade Red. While book one in the Light trilogy may have been that good kind of painful in the end, at least we had an idea of where things were going from there. Now that I’ve finished Renegade Red, I’m at a loss for words to describe how desperately I want to know where this story ends.

In case you didn’t quite understand all my love for this book in the midst of my fangirl pain-fest up there, here it is, plain and simple: Renegade Red is great. While reading it, I experienced so much of the frustration that Noa, Judah, and Callum themselves were dealing with, but that’s the point. So much of this book is throwing it’s main characters into the unknown again and again. It starts with the In Between and ends with a twist I definitely didn’t see coming. Just when our main trio thinks they’ve gotten things back under their control, they are thrust into another new situation and must scramble to free themselves.

As far as the Judah, Noa, Callum love triangle goes, I love that although the passion that burns amongst them is present throughout the book, it most definitely isn’t the focus. While the boys may devolve into fits of brotherly squabbling over Noa and who has wronged her least, Noa keeps the focus squarely where it belongs, Sasha. No matter what romantic turmoil is festering amongst them, they all have affection for the little sister that must be protected at all costs.

It was a blessing to finally experience Aurora through a mortal’s eyes. Noa’s experience makes the Fae world all that much clearer, and allows the readers to associate the magical qualities to the realm, differentiating it from the mortal world.

And, whoa boy, that ending. Without spoiling anything, I definitely didn’t see that coming. I am eager to find out how this story will wrap up in the third book, and how there could possibly be a happy ending. There are so many obstacles keeping fae and mortal apart, but there has to be a way to solve the problem.

No matter how the romance does or does not get wrapped up, the final sentence of Renegade Red changes the game yet again. I can’t wait to see how this story will progress in the third (and final?) book. If there’s one thing that Lauren Horowitz has mastered, it’s leaving her readers wanting more in the absolute best way possible, and I can’t wait to see how she wraps up this epic story.
