Renee Zellweger is heading to the small screen for her next starring role.

According to Deadline, Renee Zellweger has officially signed on to star in a brand new limited series coming down the pipeline at NBC.

Titled The Thing About Pam, the limited series has been given a six-episode straight to series order by the network.

Descried as a true crime drama, The Thing About Pam centers on the true story of Betsy Faria, who was murdered in 2011, and whose story was later featured as part of NBC’s Dateline. Faria’s husband, Russ Faria, was later convicted. Russ, however, always maintained his innocence. His conviction was eventually overturned when it was discovered that Faria may have been murdered as part of a larger plot orchestrated by Pam Hupp in an effort to implicate Russ.

For her part, Zellweger is set to play Hupp in the forthcoming limited series, which was written by House of Lies vet Jessika Borsiczky.

Blumhouse (known for making a splash with horror titles like Paranormal Activity, The Purge, and The Invisible Man) is also involved behind the scenes on the project. The production company will be producing through their Blumhouse Television banner.

In a statement announcing their involvement with the limited series, Blumhouse founder, Jason Blum, spoke of how excited the studio is to be a part of Renee Zellweger’s first foray into television.

“This opportunity to build a powerful, scripted franchise and work with the incomparable Renée Zellweger in her first starring role on broadcast TV, with a writer as gifted as Jessika Borsiczky and adapting material from the treasure troves of Dateline in partnership with our friends at NBC, is unparalleled,” said Blum. “I couldn’t be more proud of the Blumhouse team for bringing it to fruition.”
