The first trailer for the upcoming Judy Garland biopic is here and it offers up a brilliant first look at Renee Zellweger in action as the iconic movie star.

It’s hard to imagine anyone filling Judy Garland’s incredibly famous shoes, but in the first trailer for Judy Renee Zellweger sets out to prove she’s got what it takes.

The teaser features Zellweger showing off her singing chops in a bittersweet rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” — the timeless classic from The Wizard of Oz which catapulted Garland to superstar status after its premiere in 1939.

It’s a bold move to hand the mic over to Zellweger, and while the Academy Award winner doesn’t sound exactly like Garland, her haunting rendition of the song is lovely in its own way.

Directed by Rupert Goold, Judy revolves around Garland’s journey to London in 1968 to perform a series of sold-out concerts — just one year before the beloved actress died of an overdose at the age of 47.

Though the film is set in the ’60s, the trailer shows that Judy won’t shy away from delving into the actress’ past.

The teaser showcases the glitz and glamour of Hollywood’s golden era, offering up glimpses of iconic sets from films Garland starred in. It also doesn’t shy away from featuring the darker parts of Garland’s story, teasing heated arguments as well as the star’s struggle with addiction.
