It’s a win for fandom today: following Selfie‘s untimely cancellation, its remaining episodes will be made available online.

When Selfie was cancelled by ABC, the fandom outcry was extraordinary. Not only was it a promising, enjoyable sitcom, but in John Cho, the American television industry had found its first Asian romantic lead.

The cancellation came after seven episodes had aired. The ratings hadn’t been stellar, and after already nixing the other new comedy in the 8 p.m. timeslot, Manhattan Love Story, it hardly came as a surprise that Selfie would get axed.

Still, fans remained hopeful that they would at least get to see the remaining six episodes, out of the total 13 produced.

Clearly series creator Emily Kapnek wants to share them with us, too, because it seems like they’ve reached an understanding with the studio. She reveals on Twitter:

Answering excited fans, Kapnek further explains that they plan is to release one episode a week, starting today (Tuesday)!

It’s not a renewal, but it is more than most cancelled shows are given. Note that we’re not likely to see any kind of real resolution between Henry and Eliza, as the writers were surely wanting to draw their will-they-won’t-they out for more than 13 episodes.

Selfie was a modern retelling of My Fair Lady (based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion), starring Karen Gillan and John Cho. It aired Tuesday nights at 8/7c on ABC. Its final episode had a very modest 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic.

Selfie season 1, episode 8 is titled “Traumatic Party Stress Disorder.” Check out some promotional stills here.
