For those of us suffering from Post-Potter depression, a new magical mistress has been revived to fill the void – Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Late last month, Archie Comics revealed that the popular series of comics which inspired the even more popular forerunner to shows such as Wizards of Waverly Place would be getting a reboot – in cartoon form, with the help of Moonscoop Group, and animation company most notable for cartoons such as Hero 108 and Code Lyoko.

“The Archie/Moonscoop partnership will bring a new look to the long-running character, and bring her in line with a more modern and teen-centric sensibility. Sabrina will face the trials and tribulations all teens come across – along with monsters and the supernatural.”

This reimagining for a modern audience includes a complete cosmetic overhaul of the character – instead of looking, well, average, Sabrina now sports an edgy broom-gang look complete with choppy haircut and a glowing tattoo. Sabrina’s eye-catching appearance incorporates elements of other strong, supernatural females from similar franchises such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Twilight and Ruby Gloom – but will this bid to appeal to the established fan bases work in her favor?

There’s really no telling until the revamped Teenage Witch comes to screens in October 2012.
