Several celebs have co-signed a letter as Reel Equity, a group calling for the equal pay for women working behind the camera in Hollywood.

There has been a lot of talk in Hollywood regarding equal pay for female actresses. Stories of starring actresses like Claire Foy receiving lower pay than her Crown co-star Matt Smith, for example, have flooded entertainment news for some time now. And while it seems that the tides are slowly starting to turn for those women working in front of the camera, equal pay for women working behind the camera wasn’t really being addressed.

Therefore, a huge group of Hollywood’s finest have come out in force as Reel Equity, a group fighting for equal pay for women working in production. Celebrities like Ava DuVerynay, Sterling K. Brown, Mandy Moore, Jane Fonda, and many, many more have added their names offering support to the #ReelEquity movement.

HuffPo first reported on this letter, explaining that in the discussion for equal pay, many times women in production were being left out of the conversation. However, without the brilliant women working as production coordinators, art department coordinators, and script supervisors, the stories we love to watch on the big and small screen would never become a reality.

Though the #MeToo and Times Up movements have pushed to make Hollywood more inclusive for women in front of the camera, the team behind Reel Equity explains that women in production have often been left out of the equation. Therefore, the group is proposing that just as Hollywood execs are being pushed to provide equal pay and to create more balanced casts, the same care should be taken when choosing members of the production team.

It’s time for everyone working in Hollywood to be treated fairly and to be fairly compensated for their amazing work, and we’re so glad to see how many people are ready to fight for pay equality for women working in front and behind the camera.
