At this point, it’s the best news Red Band Society fans could hope for. Following Fox’s decision to pull the show last year, its swan song episodes have been scheduled to air on consecutive Saturdays.

Red Band Society had already built up a passionate fanbase by the time it was taken off the air by Fox, 10 episodes into its first and only season.

But the numbers told a different story: after a modest series premiere it was all downhill from there, and long story short, Red Band Society just wasn’t the hit Fox was hoping it would be.

We were left hanging when the show was cancelled last year, with Emma unconscious on the bathroom floor while Hunter headed in for what was most likely a fatal surgery.

Luckily we won’t have to settle for fanfiction when it comes to imagining what happens next: Fox is giving the show a gentle push off the air with its decision to release the final three installments of the 13-episode season at the end of the month.

It’s very akin to ABC’s decision to release Selfie and Manhattan Love Story‘s episodes online, and we appreciate Fox putting Red Band Society back on the actual TV schedule.

According to Deadline, Fox has been attempting to strike a deal with ABC Studios to continue the series as a summer show, but it was not a viable possibility for the high-profile drama.

Red Band Society‘s final three episodes will air on two consecutive Saturdays: episode 11 will air Jan. 31, with the two-part finale airing Feb. 7.

The teen hospital drama starred Oscar winner Octavia Spencer, and featured a group of talented young actors (literally) making the best of a bad situation.

We’re sad to see the series go, but fans should be heartened by the fact that the series will get a chance to wrap up on its own terms.
