In a new video interview, Red Band Society‘s Nolan Sotillo explains why the show is important, and how it’s changing television.

Miami New Times has done a short interview with Nolan Sotillo, who plays Jordi on Red Band Society. Watch it below:

Sotillo talks about his transition from the East Coast to the West Coast, admitting that he likes home better.

On his audition process, Sotillo reflects that he wasn’t nervous going in for the role. “I really love the character [of Jordi],” he says, and was particularly attracted to the project because of Steven Spielberg’s involvement.

Explaining a bit about the show, he says, “The coolest thing about it is, when you’re in a hospital the walls come down … you’re there, and you’re all sick, so you have to kind of get along with one another whether you like it or not.”

Sotillo says that he believes the show is very important, because, “there’s nothing else like it. We’re sort of breaking the mold.” He hopes that the show can inspire people, “to go do something they wouldn’t normally do.”

Last night, the fifth episode of Red Band Society flashed back to Charlie (Griffin Gluck)’s accident, and we saw Nurse Jackson (Octavia Spencer) potentially risk her entire career to keep him in the hospital.

Despite its original premise and committed cast, the show’s ratings have been steadily falling since its launch in September.

TV By the Numbers is predicting that the series will be cancelled after its first season, although there is a chance that it could be renewed for a second, short season, which would focus on a new group of patients.

Red Band Society season 1, episode 6 “Ergo Ego” airs next Wednesday at 9/8c on Fox.
