Castle 5×17 “Scared to Death” just finished airing. What did you think? Plus check out the promo for “The Wild Rover.”

The episode begins with the discovery of the a woman who has seemingly been scared to death. While looking for the disc the girl received, Rick inadvertently watches the footage which states whoever watches the disc will die in three days. Rick is, of course, freaked out by the prospect of dying while Beckett is calm and practical. Eposito and Ryan bot begin to believe that the supernatural is involved as there are no leads and no real cause of death besides being scared to death.

Feeling the pressure of his impending doom Rick calls Wes Craven to discuss the situation. The phone call is highly entertaining as Rick pitches his dilemma as a possible screenplay to Craven who gives him great advice in solving his curse. The hints found in the video lead to a serial killer, Nigel Malloy, who has been dead for three years.

After hitting that roadblock they discover the serial killer had a brother who is now in an insane asylum. Rick and Beckett visit the asylum, which gives a nod to Hannibal Lecter. After visiting with Leopold, Rick still thinks he is going to die and confesses to Beckett that he broke her blue vase while playing Wii tennis. Beckett calls Ryan only to discover that Nigel Malloy’s body had been removed from his grave.

Rick and Beckett head up to a cabin to try and save one of the remaining witnesses. He has only minutes before midnight and the lights go out. Of course. Rick is spooked and thinks that all three may die. Rick is against splitting up because you all know the horror story rules!

This episode was great fun giving nods various horror stories and leaving the mystery of where the serial killer’s body really is. The episode ended with a cute Rick and Beckett moment.
